TRAINS AND BOATS AND PLANES
East is east and west is west and all points in between are now easily
accessible by today's travellers with more and more people being influenced
in their choice of destination by the stunning locations in films and
on TV. One of the top destinations for holiday makers is said to be New
Zealand which tourist industry has benefited from 3 years free marketing
via the "Lord of the Rings" movies. Other popular locations
include the stunning Amalfi Coastline as seen in the film "A Good
Woman" starring Scarlett Johansson who was also in the film "Lost
in Translation" set in Tokyo, Japan. The ancient city of Kyoto was
the location for the film "Memoirs of a Geisha". In total contrast
is the open range of Wyoming, Texas which formed the backdrop in the film
"Brokeback Mountain". Other films to influence summer holiday
destinations are the "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"
starring Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom and the big screen
version of "Miami Vice" with Colin Farrell and Jamie Fox taking
on the roles of Crockett & Tubbs which were played by Don Johnson
and Philip Michael Thomas in the original 80s TV series. The cult TV drama
"Lost" is set to boost visitors to Hawaii. Music lovers can
choose from an array of epic road trips and guided tours or once in a
lifetime trips marking anniversaries of the late and the great including
Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. The Greek Island of Skopelos
has been in the spotlight since it was featured in the film of Mamma Mia!,
the hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, which was shot there last
year. Skopelos is the biggest island of the Northern Sporades archipelago.
